Description
This kit is a new, partially assembled extender kit for the Datron Wavetek calibrators models 4000, 4000A, 4200, 4700, 4705, 4708, 4800, 4805, 4808.The extender cards flip each calibrator card around 180 degrees to allow easy access to the test points and components for troubleshooting. The exception being the Analog Interface (board 2), it is flipped around to expose the bottom of the board since it's normal orientation is 180 degrees to the rest of the boards. There are test point hoops for each signal line on the extender card.
There is a key for the card notch at Pin 2 to prevent incorrect orientation of the card being extended. There is also a key notch between Pins 66 and 67 on the main extender cards for the key that is on the main board connectors.

The kit consists of two main extender boards (the Sine board has a physical variation to the other cards, so it has an unique extender) and one PA breakout/extender board of your choice.
There are two PA breakout/extender boards available, one for the 4000/4000A PA card and the other one covers the 4200, 470X and 480X series PA cards.
A PVC base for mounting the PA breakout/extender board is supplied with the necessary mounting hardware.
The PA extender board has test points for all the lines (along with grounds) and jumpers to isolate any line or for substituting signals for trouble shooting. While I have provided jumpers for the grounds I have run the traces through for safety. If you wish to have the ability to isolate a ground line you will have to cut the appropriate trace on the bottom of the PCB.
All parts are included except the test point hoops for the main boards. You can either wind a spiral of 20AWG to 26AWG bus wire on a 5 - 6mm rod and cut them in half circles or purchase Keystone 5026 test point hoops. The photo shows the half circle method. There are 240 test points between the two cards, one for every edge connector contact.
You get the two main extenders with the connectors and a choice of one PA extender board for C5 (~USD0) plus shipping. If you want both PA extenders it is an additional US.00 for the other board and parts.
I will align and spot solder the four corner leads on each edge connector on each main extender boards. I will also crimp and insert each wire contact into the female Molex shells since not everyone will have the crimp tool. The connector designators and wire colours are silk screened on the PCB for final assembly.
The photos show one way to assemble and use the PA board. You could also have the board mounted on the back of the extender card, with the entry/exit cables sides exchanged. There is limited silk screening on the back side for maximum versatility in construction/use.
I have attached photos of the extenders in use along with the various kit pieces. The extender is shown in action extending the Digital board (
the most signal intensive card)
and PA board (using both extenders). The calibrator is set to 100.00000 VDC as shown on the calibrator and the DMM. The FAIL 6 (
Calibration store fault)
that is displayed is the original fault on this unit. The DMM is not part of the auction.
